Opinion: Present situation of Women in Nepal
Nepalese women stayed home and took care of household but due to western influence and education things are changing.
At early times, women stayed home and took care of household affairs while men went out to earn. They were restricted to house work and were not allowed to go out and work to earn. But Nepalese people thinking horizon has evidenced with time. Due to western influence, education and feminist movements, things are changing.
We compare ourselves with western development pace and get dishearten. But changes cannot be expected to be sudden and drastic. Especially, to change the deep-rooted social phenomenon is much harder than one can think.
Through mass media people are realizing the importance of women’s role in development field. Though insignificant, we have noticed few good changes in our society.
More and more people in rural and urban areas are educated, established and independent. Previously, women looked for security through marriages as they had to depend on husband for every minor and major thing. Now, this concept has changed.
Most women, now, want to become educated and have established career before they get married. There are many Nepalese families where both husband and wife go to work and earn living.
Education system is preparing the young generation likewise. They are taught about gender issues, equality, fraternity and so on. So, young generation is aware about these matters. They are also helping to outcast the gender discrimination practice.

It's true.
Dear Reeta ji,
I am not sure I got this article right. Things are not changing for women not because Nepal is westernized it is natural progression. The western thinking/custom is not a doctrine but it has been also an evolutionary process. If you compare their situations during the forst world war, second word war and now they are very different.
How is it possible?
Education, change in the social perspective might not be all the reason why women go to work. It can be out of need. Most of youth and men go abroad to work, and women now maybe out of need or maybe because they don't have the male domination go out to work.
